Our Design Process
At 2nd Source Studio, we work with an honest, circular, and material-driven design process, where aesthetics, functionality, and responsibility go hand in hand. Our process is dynamic and exploratory — we move back and forth between phases depending on what the material and project require.
Research & Understanding
We start by understanding the context: the material, the production, and the people it is intended for. Often, we take inspiration from leftover materials or existing production flows, exploring how they can be given new life and value.
Experimentation & Form Development
We begin with sketching, 3D modeling, and quick AI visualizations using tools like Gemini, which allows us to see concepts in context and with the intended materials. We then move on to physical mockups, experimenting directly with the materials to understand their character and potential. It is in the intersection between digital and physical exploration that form, function, and material storytelling come together.
Reflection & Refinement
We select and refine the ideas that best balance aesthetics, functionality, and responsibility, often collaborating closely with manufacturers or partners to ensure the design can be realized technically and aesthetically.
Realization & Storytelling
Finally, we develop the finished product and craft its visual and narrative story. For us, design is not just about form — it is about creating something meaningful, where the history, material, and craftsmanship are tangible and felt.
